Alle elezioni politiche del 2006 è stato eletto alla Camera dei deputati nella circoscrizione XIX (Campania I).
Al Congresso Nazionale del Partito l’area ha poi votato a favore dell’elezione a Segretario di Paolo Ferrero e successivamente Pegolo è divenuto responsabile nazionale dell’Area “Democrazia e istituzioni”
